Australia, the countdown is on… your favourite indie-pop band Grouplove are back! The Californian party-starters will be heading to Australian shores this August, playing shows in Sydney and Melbourne with support from the exquisite singer-songwriter Lisa Mitchell! They’ll be armed with their highly anticipated third studio album, Big Mess, which is due for release September 9th. Its first single, ‘Welcome To Your Life,’ will be released on July 15th.
If Grouplove’s epic career defining sunset slot at 2014’s Splendour In The Grass is anything to go by, these shows will have you dancing non-stop to their new and old party anthems with insatiable melodies and golden-hued guitar pop that we just can’t get enough of!
Big Mess was recorded in Los Angeles and Seattle with producers Captain Cuts (Grouplove’s own Ryan Rabin) and Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses, The Shins), Big Mess features the signature anthemic choruses and infectious hooks that first brought the Los Angeles quintet to prominence, through hits like ‘Tongue Tied’, ‘Colours’, and ‘Ways To Go’. No stranger to the worldwide festival circuit, including 2012’s Falls Festival, Grouplove has made an album that brilliantly showcases their richly narrated songs with elaborate production.
"We made this album at an important crossroads in our lives, and it was a dream come true to be able to work with Phil Ek up in Seattle and with Ryan down in LA. We’re extremely excited for the world to hear it!” offered singer/guitarist Christian Zucconi.
Following on from her single Wah Ha, Lisa Mitchell has just finished her new album with Eric J Dubowsky (Flume/Chet Faker/Flight Facilities), which is slated for release later this year. These intimate shows with Grouplove will give us a sneak peak to Mitchell’s highly-anticipated third studio album.
Grouplove first came together in 2009 and were quickly hailed for their standout live performances, both as headliners and at such international festivals as Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, Reading + Leeds Festivals, and Glastonbury. A year after releasing a self-titled EP in 2010, the band returned with their debut full length album Never Trust A Happy Song, featuring a trio of breakout singles – ‘Colours’, ‘Itchin’ On A Photograph’, plus the platinum hit ‘Tongue Tied’. The quintet’s second full length album - 2013’s Spreading Rumours - was met with a raft of acclaim, including the National Public Radio who called it “ludicrously easy to love”.
