Elton John's Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour is in full force. This is the first of his two and half hour concerts in Melbourne and if this one has 20,000 Elton fans rockin' up to dance and sing along to the Elton's rich back catalogue of hits....the mind boggles on how many music fans will attend this series of Aussie concerts by Elton and his band.
For me it was such a delight to see Elton performing with his slick band that still includes Davey Johnstone on lead guitar, a very dapper Nigel Olsson on drums and the always enthusiastic percussionist Ray Cooper.
My personal highlights: Rocket Man, Burn Down The Mission, Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting and the double progrock whammy of Funeral For A Friend and Love Lies Bleeding. I would have added Bennie And The Jet to that list but I was so frantically busy trying to find a one foot gap in the crowd to capture my photographs, that I barely registered that the song was even performed.
