I had the immense pleasure of photographing Slowdive twice on their current Australia tour: tonight at their Melbourne SOLD OUT concert at the Forum Theatre and during the weekend at St Jerome's Laneway Festival in Footscray.
Fronted by Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell, Slowdive power through the set with little banter but with a glorious, symphonic and hypnotising music. After a 22 year break between albums, it is mesmerising to watch. The new songs sounded just as good as the old ones. A personal highlight was hearing the soaring cover of Syd Barrett’s “Golden Hair.”
Slowdive, Ride, My Bloody Valentine and Jesus and Mary Chain have all reformed in recent years. All we need now is for someone to tour Ride across Australia.
