The mystical duo The Native Cats return from Tasmania after three long years with a brilliant new album under their belt, John Sharp Toro. Playing in front of a packed house at the Northcote Social Club, they performed songs from the new album and also gave us a sneak peek of some new songs.
Equiped with a drum machine, bass and a Korg emulator loaded into a Nintendo DS, Julian Teakle and Chloe Alison Escott break down all of the rules of how to make modern music. Which is something that I find so endearing and charming about them. Their uniqueness is the main reason I have been raving about them, since the first time I saw them play at the Flip Out Festival way back in 2009 at the Corner Hotel. Witnessing Julian thumpin' his Peter Hook style meaty bass hooks, while Chloe is blossoming and singing without any inhibitions, truly brings a smile to my dial. Welcome back The Native Cats.
