Top Marks - Gig Recommendations for July 2019

My God, the weather might be cold but there is so much on in Melbourne in July!

Changes Music Festival July 3&4 Various venues around Collingwood and Fitzroy

This the second year of the Changes music festival, it has local and international guest speakers talking about all the different facets of the music industry and it will be showcasing the cream of the crop of local talent around various Northside venues

Some of the highlights are Fenn Wilson doing a solo show away from his band Pollyman, Fenn will be playing at the intimate setting of the Shady lady.

Noise Mongers Hextdebt will be smashing out some tunes at The Old bar

One of my personal highlights from last years Changes festival was Ryan Downey, his encapsulating deep tenor voice, will take you to the higher heavens, reminiscent of Leonard Cohen and Bill Callahan.

Leaps and Bounds Festival 6-14 July Various Venues around the North Side of Melbourne venues

One festival ends and another one starts , Leaps and Bounds Festival is a celebration of Melbourne and all the diverse musicians that live here.

Yarra’s Winter Record Store Day Saturday 6th July, Various Record Stores around Northern Suburbs

There are so many independent record stores in the Northern Suburbs, so it only makes  sense to celebrate them during the festival. There will be various artists playing in store

Highlights include

DRMNGNOW ( Neil Morris ) I saw DRMNGNOW earlier this year at Golden Plains, his blend spoken word and minimalist electronica is the perfect anecdote for winter

Ladies Rocking The Gem Friday 5th July The Gem Hotel

Two of Melbourne's best garage punk bands Moody Beachers and Party Pests, will be taking over the Gem and showing the crowd what's what about  rock n roll and riffs, Anna who fronts Moody Beachers can shatter a window at 50 paces, considering how small the Gem is it is going to be one wild party.

Collingwood Underground Roller Disco - Blades and Blaze

This unique event will be one of the highlights of the Leaps and Bounds Festival, in the underground carpark in Collingwood will be turned into 70’s inspired roller disco, with Dj Battle between Sophie Mcalister, Mike Gurrieri vs Plug Seven & Lachlan Stuckey. Records

There will be giveaways in the form of free beer and records, so if you think you B in blades and the F in Funk , get  down on it Saturday night

These are only a few of the highlights of the Changes and Leaps and Bounds Festival
