Bird’s Basement presents shows 5 nights weekly. The program includes artists across a range of jazz styles, as well as soul, funk, R&B, rock, blues, latin and beyond. Birdland New York is the original club of Charlie Parker. The club has been the home of the most famous musicians since 1949. As Allan Morrison, the long-time editor of Ebony once put it, “Birdland was both a cultural vantage point and a barometer of trends where all the big names in jazz performed.” The club closed down in 1965 and having reopened it’s doors in 1986 and it has since regained its place as the jazz corner of the world. After 32 years of operations, for the first time Birdland extends it’s banner outside New York in the form of Bird’s Basement in Melbourne. Melbourne is very proud to be the host of Bird’s legacy. Bird’s Basement promises to be stage of past, present and future legends.
