Gigs I wouldn't miss with Miles Recommends

Taking their moniker from their childhood video store clerk, Miles Recommends (like the movies Miles recommended) defy genres through invoking a critical spirit that dissects the social norms of today. By blending a rich tapestry of rock, folk, blues and pop-influences into a magical musical odyssey of catchy tunes, soulful harmonies and cheeky turns of phrase, they will have you dancing and singing along in no time!

Miles Recommends have two new singles out ‘You’re Never Alone’ and ‘Thank You’.

‘You’re Never Alone’ is a soaring piece of jazz infused pop that came about from watching the world happily skip into the Anthropocene as vested interests continue to distort democratic institutions. Yet despite having the weight of the world’s problems on your shoulders, and knowing there’s no promise for a brighter future, it’s important to remember that, ‘You’re Never Alone.

Thank You is a light-hearted toe-tappy country number written especially for the 2019 Australian federal election. Settle in for a knee-slapping journey across some of the broader challenges facing the nation, and also the limitations of politicians to resolve pertinent issues. Nothing but 3 chords and the truth - yeehah!

Gigs we wouldn't miss for May:

Miles Recommends – Mr Boogie Man Bar – May 10

We’re not ashamed to plug our own gig…

The Teskey Brothers – Howler – May 11

Met these guys at BIGSOUND in 2017 – nice bunch of chaps and they’re just going from strength to strength. Not hard with such a great live show!

Canned Heat – Corner Hotel – May 16

Woodstock Legends – and ‘Going Up The Country’ has always been a favourite road-trippin song.

Yana Alana – Thornbury Theatre – May 17

Whatever we write won’t do justice to Yana Alana’s show… so provocative for the mind and the senses… and that voice… wow! Plus, she’s performing all her Greatest Tits (no that’s not a mistype) … so what more can we say?!

Eric Bibb - Thornbury Theatre – May 23

Saw Eric a few years back at Woodford Folk Festival. It was a ridiculously hot day and he just soothed us with his chill sounds and lovely personality.

Tex Perkins - The Publican, Mornington – May 26

Love Tex. From The Cruel Sea through to his solo stuff – plus even Johnny Cash lately… All good!
